While dolphin don't limit their amorous feelings to one season, it does appear that the hot summer months provoke their most obvious displays of affection. During June, July, and August it is common to see dolphin wrestling, leaping out of the water, even doing forward and backward flips in the air.

When dolphin are in the intense throws of passion, their white underbellies turn bright pink. They become very playful and swim excitedly and mate indiscriminately. It takes about a year after conception before a single calf is born.
