Welcome to the wonderful field of Family & Consumer Sciences. There are
various careers and skills to be learned in this study of life. In
Orientation to Life Skills and Careers, we will examine topics related to
these areas: Career exploration (job applications, resumes, cover letters and
interviews); Personal finance (opening a checking account, writing checks, and
balancing a check book); and Independent living skills (crash course in moving
out on your own).
Classroom Expectations
The most important expectation I have of all of my students is RESPECT. It is
vital to your success, now and later in life, to learn how to respect
yourself, those around you and the objects you come in contact with. If you
can follow this simple principle, you will never have any problems dealing
with people at school, work, and home.
- Food and drinks will not be permitted within the classroom, unless we
have a Lab in the kitchen or a cooking project in class.
- Deliberate misuse or damage of any object in this classroom will result in a
referral to the office.
- You will be held accountable for cleaning up your work area, in the
classroom or kitchen. Detention or point deductions will be given to students
who leave their work areas messy.
- Bathroom passes will be given out the first week of school, once all of
your passes have been used a tardy will be given for each additional need. Use
your passes only when absolutely needed. You can earn rewards for your passes.
For example, one drop test grade=4 passes.
- Refer to the Bryan County Board of Education Handbook for policies related
to dress code, tardies, attendance and behavior codes. All of these rules
will be enforced in this classroom.
- Late work will not be accepted under any circumstances. Students who are absent are
responsible for asking the teacher or classmates what was missed. Only students with an
excused absence will be allowed to make up tests or quizzes (these can be made up before or
after school only).
